Milan Fashion Week and A Tribute To Moms!

So an early Mother’s Day present and tribute took place in Milan today.  Dolce & Gabbana presented their Fall 2015 collection for Fashion week, with mothers to new babies, toddlers and those expecting rocking the runway.
Drawings by the children of Dolce employees were printed on to silk. Embroidered messages, appliqued red roses and pretty jewels were on full display. The collection was a true celebration of family!
We too, have always felt that having a beautiful and stylish Mom taught us how to be stylish ourselves.  We remember going into our Mom’s closet as little girls and marveling over her trendy clothes, designer handbags and her beautiful jewelry.  She always took the time to do her hair perfectly and loved to wear high heels for all occasions. She taught us to be devoted moms while still taking the time to treat ourselves to new shoes, bright lipstick and the perfect pair of jeans.
There is something so wonderful about being a modern, multi-tasking mom!  We can have a job, take care of a family, stay fit and healthy…all while looking fabulous!

It’s been a busy few weeks for us here at The Style Duo! And this past weekend was super busy and a ton of fun! That’s because we spent most our time at Lincoln Center for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Icy cold temps, and even some snow could not stop us from attending exciting shows like Mark & Estel, Mara Hoffman, and Carmen Marc Valvo.

It was worth every shiver and chill, because as soon as we stepped foot inside the theater and saw the HOT Fall 2015 fashions, we were blown away. Plaids, reds, and lots of fur ruled the runway. We loved the rock-n-roll vibe of the Mark & Estel show complete with a mini concert at the end by the designing duo. We were in awe of the beautiful and colorful creations on the Mara Hoffman models, and don’t even get us started on our absolute fave designer Carmen Marc Valvo’s show! With stadium seating for all his fashionista fans, male and female models stunned in rich and vibrant Fall attire.

But fabulous fashions aren’t only on the runways. They can be seen all over Lincoln Center. Designers, celebrities, stylists, models, editors, bloggers all come out in their Fashion Week best and it is so fun checking out all the amazing trends. Photographers snap away as you enter and exit. We even had our pic snapped a few times! It is all very exciting and even though the shows only last for a few minutes, it is an unforgettable experience.

Red and plaid creations captivated us at Carmen Marc Valvo!

Let’s hear it for the boys at Carmen Marc Valvo.

We may have only appeared on screen for a second and a half but it earned us our SAG cards!! Thanks ARBYS! And the Thiel twins!

The Screen Actor’s Guild Awards has only been near and dear to our hearts…ever since we received our very own SAG cards in 1991 after appearing in an Arby’s commercial! So we look forward to this award show the most and this year not only were great actors honored but they hit the red carpet in glamorous Hollywood style! Plunging necklines, perfect purples, one shoulder numbers and lots of color took center stage. As actors we were truly proud but as stylists we were blown away! Here are our top 3 looks of the night.

Catherine Malandrino Fashion Event at their store in the meatpacking district. Summer 2014

Anyone who knows us well, knows that we love a really good sale. We get such a thrill finding a fabulous piece at a fabulous price. So, needless to say, we were super excited to hear about the incredible sale going on now at one of our favorite stores, Catherine Malandrino. Since we are huge fans of her designs and silhouettes, we are happy to spread the word to our fashionista friends. For a limited time only, Catherine Malandrino is running a 50-70% off sale on selected items. We got to take a peek at some of the merchandise and we can tell you first hand that this sale is NOT to be missed!

There are plenty of stunning pieces from the Fall/Winter 2014 collection marked down on the racks. This collection is a mix of demure pieces with a defiant attitude. Structured A-line quilted coats, loose organza skirts and geometric cut out dresses are just some of the incredible items you will find. This line is both romantic and bold and contrasting black and white are the key colors complemented by rich hues of pine, patina, and aurora.

Also with Spring right around the corner, it might be a really good idea to get a jumpstart on a warmer weather wardrobe. So much of Catherine Malandrino’s Spring/Summer 2014 line is marked down 70% that you will want to buy every single gorgeous creation. The Spring 2014 collection illustrates an elongated and airy silhouette where long pleated skirts, high waisted cotton pants, and loose tank maxis suggest a relaxed attitude of floating in the wind. Think yachting in St. Tropez.

For more info you can contact us here at The Style Duo or visit the Catherine Malandrino boutique on 652 Hudson Street, New York City. Happy SALE shopping!!!

Comfy & Chic Clothes For the Blues & Blahs

So Happy New Year fashionistas! It is 2015 and we are looking forward to an awesome year! In 2015, we here at The Style Duo are planning on styling more fashion shows and events, hosting fun tv segments and making more fashionable and fabulous friends! But as excited as we are for what lies ahead, January always turns out to be a little blah. Cold, snowy weather creeps up on us and we all start to feel a little blue. And while it might be summer in places like Argentina, it is definitely Winter here!!

So how can we stay super cozy and wash those Winter blues away? Well we like to grab a great book (we recommend “The Husband’s Secret”), a yummy hot chocolate and definitely splurge on a brand new pair of PJs! It’s so important to stay super cute even when you are stuck at home. Looking good means feeling good and every time you pass the mirror your mood will be boosted! And trust us, your hubby will be happy to see you get rid of your ripped sweats from 1990. This year there are more beautiful and affordable options then ever! With comfy and chic loungewear like these, the Winter blues and blahs will be a distant memory!

As we are busy prepping for our fun TV segment shoot tomorrow, we remember some fashion tips an expert gave us years ago. She had said to keep in mind that dressing for success on TV is very different from what you might wear for other professional settings. TV sets are filled with a lot of competing visuals and distractions, so you need to be careful when choosing your on camera wardrobe. First of all, we all know that the camera can add some pounds and that is the last thing any of us ladies want.  So keep that in mind and choose a slimming sheath dress that hugs close (but not too close) to the body. Or go with a nice top and sleek tailored pants, that can also create a smooth and slim silhouette. Next, you need to pick the appropriate color for the spotlight. We believe that color choice is crucial! It should brighten your skin tone as well as compliment the surrounding set. Solid bright colors like royal blue and poppy red are our two faves. Avoid bold prints and excessive jewelry as they can be distracting and look messy. And finally, make sure your hair, skin and nails are in top notch grooming condition. Dark roots will look even darker on camera and dull skin will look even duller. So now, as we prepare for our day tomorrow, we are keeping these simple tips in mind. And we are all set and action ready for our closeups!

Poppy red with sleek pants are alway chic and sleek!

Cobalt blue sheath dresses look great on every woman!

It’s countdown time! The holidays are near and then it’s bye bye school & see ya later 9-5 jobs…and hello VACATION! We are dreaming of the sunny getaways we have planned this holiday season but the most fun is the shopping, prepping and packing! Yes, it’s over two weeks away and we have started packing! (Don’t judge us) And guess what? There is a lot of great resort wear out there. Bikinis in beautiful greens and blues, fun beach bags & towels and glamorous flip flops! For fashionistas who love the warm weather, you won’t be disappointed when you check out the fabulous options you have for your beachy adventures. So get to packing and shopping and dreaming. We can hear the waves crashing already…
