Ah, summer! (well almost) But as far as we are concerned June 1st = summer. Time to hit the beaches, pools, bbq’s etc. We have been preparing our clients, friends, AND ourselves for this fabulous season. We have recently blogged about silk jumpsuits, crisp white dresses, monokini bathing suits, etc. But we can’t forget about the good ol’ t-shirt. Summers come and summers go and the one thing that we all always come back to is the t-shirt. As Jessica Simpson sang, “With nothing but a t-shirt on. I never felt so beautiful…’” There’s something sexy, cool and effortless about throwing on a t-shirt and denim cut-off shorts. It reminds us of our easy breezy camp days when our friends, fun activities and camp crushes meant everything. The t-shirt brings us back to our youth. So we have been saying it all year but in case you didn’t listen, now is officially time to wear white. And if you know us at all then you know how much we love rocking the white trend with a little self tanner and bold gold accessories. Now while we encourage our clients and friends to embrace white all year long, we do have one rule about when NOT to wear white. No, it is not after Labor Day and before Memorial Day ladies, it is when you are a guest at a wedding. This is the only time we say wearing white is a NoNo. This is the time for the bride to shine alone in white. And this year, the wide array of gorgeous wedding gowns they are showing for brides are simply stunning. The trend is a little more simplistic than in previous years but nonetheless fabulous and gorgeous. Sexy backs and streamlined silhouettes are very hot right now. As well as gowns with a fresh, and romantic vibe paired with a bold headpiece. And speaking of wedding gowns, WHOA BABY! Did ya check out Kim Kardashian’s gown this past weekend? More gorgeous than her last wedding gown and probably ten times as much with an estimated price tag of….. $500,000 DOLLARS!!!! Her Givenchy Haute Couture gown did not disappoint all her loyal fans who were waiting with baited breath for a glimpse of the reality star as if she were the Princess of Wales. So like we always say wearing white is always a “DO” except when it’s someone else’s time to say “I DO”!!!

Nowadays a gal aims to be a stylish mom and “A GOOD WIFE”!

Growing up in the ‘70s and the ‘80s, we here at The Style Duo, were big fans of many of the sitcoms that ruled TV land back then. It was before reality shows took over and housewives and pregnant teens reigned supreme on the tube. And little fashionistas like ourselves, got inspired by the styles of the TV moms that dressed in ways so representative of their times. We can remember being in awe of the crazy wild tops and bell bottoms that Carol Brady (from The Brady Bunch) wore. And we were so impressed yet intimidated by the professional and heavily shoulder padded suits donned by Angela Bower (Who’s The Boss). Today, even though sitcoms are a fading phenomenon, shows like Modern Family and The Good Wife have mommy characters with fashion appeal. From soccer mom garbs to office chic attire, TV mom styles still run the gamut and we love to try to emulate many of their awesome looks. Of course, there are some that we try hard to forget! This past weekend was the Kentucky Derby, otherwise known as ‘the greatest two minutes in sports”! Lately we have been talking a lot about the black and white trend and we are encouraging all of our clients to embrace this easy to wear look. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t other hot options to try as well. A close relative to the black and white trend but more fresh for spring and summer is the little white dress trend. And no, you do not need to wait until Memorial Day to wear it. That was so yesteryear. It’s 2014, and little white dresses were seen all over the spring catwalks and they have come straight from the runways to the racks! There are so many styles out there to choose; from fit and flares to body hugging knits, to maxis and halter versions. We are also loving the ones with a tea length hemline which is so classy and chic. And the best thing about the little white dress is that you can get creative with the accessories. Acting as a blank canvas, the LWD is a great backdrop for pops of colorful accessories like turquoise, coral and pink.  And don’t use the “I don’t have a tan excuse” to shy away from trying this trend. Apply a little self-tanner and go for it!
